Job summary

Synergy is seeking a Principal Trading Systems Business Analyst for the Wholesale unit in Perth. Translate business needs into actionable functional requirements to enhance trading systems, collaborating with traders, generation, and commercial teams, and internal development and testing groups.

You will develop UML-based domain models and present material to a wider business audience, underpinning the trading systems that support 2,100 MW generation and over $1B in annual costs and revenues

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in software engineering, computer science, mathematics, science or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Business Analyst in a complex software environment, preferably with Agile.
• Familiarity with UML-based OOAD domain modelling techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex requirements and design integrated solutions across systems, processes, and people.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

• Partner with business stakeholders and technology teams to design, enhance, and deliver trading system solutions.

Role Description

The Principal Trading Systems Business Analyst is an exciting opportunity in our Wholesale Business Unit based at our Central Park, Perth office.

You will act as a trusted subject matter expert, translating intricate business needs into discrete, actionable and testable functional requirements to enhance Synergy’s Trading systems, via Synergy’s internal software development and functional testing teams.

This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders across trading, generation, and commercial teams, as well as Synergy’s internal software development and functional testing teams. This role includes the development and maintenance of UML-based OOAD domain models (including class and state transition diagrams) and presentation of material that describes Synergy’s Trading systems work to support presentations to a wider business audience.

This position underpins the development and continuous improvement of trading systems that support 2,100 MW of generation capacity within the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), while managing over $1 billion in annual costs and revenues across electricity and gas markets, including power purchase agreements.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain domain models, business logic and functional design specifications to ensure electricity and gas trading software is compliant, commercially effective, and aligned with strategic business objectives.
• Partner with business stakeholders and technology teams to design, enhance, and deliver trading system solutions that meet operational, commercial, and performance objectives.
• Drive the continuous improvement of wholesale trading platforms through stakeholder engagement, structured analysis, and identification of value-adding system enhancements.
• Lead the documentation and assessment of trading system controls and enhancements to ensure ongoing compliance with WEM rules, regulatory obligations, and evolving market requirements while supporting business objectives.
• Ensure trading system design and associated documentation effectively supports decision-making, data capture, transaction execution, and reporting.

What You Will Bring

• Tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Science or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Business Analyst in a complex software environment, preferably with a strong understanding and practical experience with Agile software development methodologies.
• Familiarity with functional design and domain modelling techniques, including OOAD under the Unified Modelling Language (UML).
• Demonstrated ability to analyse complex requirements and design integrated solutions across systems, processes, and people.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills to elicit, analyse, and document complex business and system requirements across multidisciplinary teams.
