Synergy (Electricity Generation and Retail Corporation) is seeking a Senior Market Modelling Analyst for its Wholesale Business Team in Perth. You will lead analysis and modelling of wholesale trading positions, evaluate trends and scenarios, and advise on actions to improve profitability and manage risk.

The role reports to the Wholesale team and involves developing performance reporting for senior management and delivering insights to support strategic decisions.

Qualifications

Role Description

The Senior Market Modelling Analyst is an exciting opportunity in our Wholesale Business Team based at our Central Park, Perth offices.

The purpose of the Senior Market Modelling Analyst is to lead analysis and modelling for Synergy’s wholesale trading positions, to evaluate impacts of trends and scenarios on operational performance, and to advise on mitigating actions or circumstances. The role supports decisions regarding development and implementation of Synergy’s wholesale strategy to manage for profitability and risk and develops performance reporting to inform operational decisions by senior management.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead Wholesale’s market modelling to evaluate trading impacts from wholesale electricity market trends, portfolio strategies and future scenarios
• Provide robust analysis of drivers for operating performance by evaluating wholesale electricity market outcomes, plant operating conditions, fuel supply and business responses
• Calibrate base case assumptions and alternative scenarios for Wholesale’s models utilising analysis of wholesale electricity market outcomes and market intelligence
• Coordinate with Finance and Thermal Generation teams to provide inputs for corporate planning processes including the State Budget Forecast and corporate reference case
• Develop reports and dashboards for operating performance to provide insights for senior management

What You Will Bring

• 7+ years of relevant experience in modelling and analytics in energy markets
• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or data science)
• Extensive experience using quantitative techniques with large volumes of data to analyse trends and solve complex problems
• Experience in development of applied modelling for economic, market or portfolio optimisation
• Advanced Excel and/or Python, MatLab, R capabilities supported by in-depth understanding of data management processes
• Ability to report and communicate complex analytical outcomes effectively to decision makers at all levels
