Job summary

Pembroke Resources in Queensland's Bowen Basin is seeking a senior CHPP Process Engineer to own metallurgical performance, coal quality and the long-term strategy for the CHPP. The role sits at the intersection of hands-on troubleshooting and capital planning, with direct access to executive leadership on safety, KPIs and cost.

You will drive improvements such as reflux bypass work, sieve bend upgrades, and future debottlenecking while maintaining a strong operating partnership with the CHPP

Qualifications

• Ten-plus years in metallurgical/process engineering within CHPP or coal preparation environments.
• Experience governing major operating/maintenance contracts and KPI performance.
• Ability to briefing executives and regulators clearly.

Pembroke produces high-quality steelmaking coal for international markets. At the heart of this production is the performance of our CHPP. This role has the mandate to be the technical steward of metallurgical performance and coal quality, and the person who makes sure our processing contract with our CHPP Contractor delivers on safety, KPIs and cost, enabling delivery to our customers.

This isn't a narrow operations role. You'll move between hands-on troubleshooting today and the long-term process engineering strategy that keeps us ahead of mine life planning, with a direct line to executive leadership on the capital decisions that follow.

What you'll get your hands on

• Reflux bypass work to lift fine coal recovery
• A sieve bend aperture increase to improve the fines/ultrafine split — better recovery, better ash control
• Longer-term projects on the horizon: a secondary fines circuit and plant debottlenecking

What you'll own

• Metallurgical performance and coal quality across the CHPP including yield, throughput, product to steelmaking spec
• Operating and maintaining CHPP contractor relationship with responsibility for chairing performance reviews, holding the line on KPIs, safety and cost, without losing the partnership
• Root cause analysis and cross-functional response on major process incidents
• Process engineering strategy, technology evaluation and capital planning for the life of the mine
• Pembroke's voice at industry forums and with regulators

What you'll bring

• 10-15 years’ industry experience supported by a degree in Chemical, Metallurgical or Process Engineering (RPEQ preferred)
• Deep CHPP experience in a coking or steelmaking coal environment
• A track record managing a major operating or maintenance contract — KPI governance and contractor performance, not just technical delivery
• The judgment to be firm with a contractor and still run a genuine operating partnership
• Confidence briefing executives, regulators and industry peers
