Job summary

Westpac is seeking a Principal AI Engineer - Agent Ops to shape how AI is built, deployed and operated at scale. You’ll lead shared AI platform products, make complex design decisions across API, data and platform layers, and mentor engineers to lift capability across squads.

This hybrid role covers Sydney, Warrane, Gadigal Country or Melbourne, Naarm, with flexibility to consider other locations by agreement.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering production platform, data or AI services in a large enterprise.
• Deep expertise in API design, distributed systems and testing.
• Strong cloud native and DevOps capabilities with containers, CI/CD, IaC, telemetry.
• Strong knowledge of AWS and Azure, including Kubernetes, networking and identity at scale.
• Experience with LLM apps, agentic workflows, RAG or observability; Python/ FastAPI.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical decisions across API, data and platform layers.
• Architect reusable patterns for AI platforms and guardrails.
• Improve reliability, observability and production readiness across squads.
• Coach engineers to lift capability across teams.
