Job summary

Westpac is advancing enterprise AI capabilities by hiring a senior AI engineer who will design, build, test, and operate secure AI services at scale. You will lead through technical credibility, guide teams, and strengthen reusable patterns to enable production-ready AI across the bank.

You will collaborate with product, platform, data, risk, and security teams to ensure safe, compliant deployment while mentoring engineers and shaping engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on AI engineering experience in a complex enterprise.
• Proven track record delivering AI/LLM-enabled systems in production.
• Strong software foundations across Python, APIs, cloud, distributed systems, CI/CD.
• Deep experience with LLMs, RAG patterns, embeddings, agents and monitoring.
• Experience embedding safety, privacy, compliance and governance into AI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, harden and operate AI capabilities for enterprise use.
• Lead through technical credibility and influence; mentor engineers.
• Review designs and code; establish reusable patterns for safe production delivery.
• Drive design reviews, root-cause analysis and durable fixes for AI system issues.
• Partner with product, platform, data, risk, security and business teams to scale AI safely.
