1300SMILES Douglas, part of the Abano Healthcare network, is seeking a hands-on Practice Manager to lead a busy team and drive performance while delivering an excellent patient experience on site in Townsville.

You will manage rosters, monitor KPIs, and support recruitment and onboarding with Abano’s team, ensuring infection control and regulatory standards are maintained. A strong, hands-on leadership style is valued.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or managing a team and coaching people.
• Experience managing rosters, workloads and day-to-day operations in a busy environment.
• Understanding of KPIs, budgets and turning results into improvements.

Responsabilités

• Leading, coaching and supporting the team, including rostering, setting expectations and having performance conversations.
• Managing appointment books and chair utilisation to help the practice meet its targets.
• Monitoring KPIs, revenue and wage costs, and identifying opportunities to improve results.
• Coordinating rosters across weekdays and Saturdays.
• Overseeing health fund claims, HICAPS and Child Dental Benefits Schedule processes.
• Supporting recruitment and onboarding in partnership with Abano's recruitment team.
• Responding to patient feedback and complaints in a professional, fair and practical way.
• Ensuring the practice follows infection control, work health and safety, privacy and accreditation requirements.

Located on the James Cook University campus, close to Townsville University Hospital, 1300SMILES Douglas cares for a diverse community of students, healthcare professionals, families and long-term patients. Our team focuses on thorough dentistry and providing gentle care for patients who may feel nervous about visiting the dentist.

We're looking for a hands-on Practice Manager who enjoys leading people, improving performance and creating a great experience for customers and staff alike.

You might already be managing a dental or healthcare practice, or you could be leading a team in retail, hospitality, customer service or another fast-paced environment. If you're confident managing people, working towards targets and keeping day-to-day operations on track, we'd love to hear from you.

Job Description

As Practice Manager, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the practice, supporting your team while keeping an eye on business performance and patient experience.

Working closely with our clinicians and Regional Operations Manager, you'll help create a well-organised practice where the team can do their best work and patients feel well cared for.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading, coaching and supporting the team, including rostering, setting expectations and having performance conversations.
• Managing appointment books and chair utilisation to help the practice meet its targets.
• Monitoring KPIs, revenue and wage costs, and identifying opportunities to improve results.
• Coordinating rosters across weekdays and Saturdays.

• Supporting recruitment and onboarding in partnership with Abano's recruitment team.

Qualifications

Dental experience is helpful, but it's not essential. The most important thing is your ability to lead a team, manage competing priorities and keep a business running well.

You'll bring:

• Experience leading or managing a team, with the confidence to coach people and address challenges when they arise.
• Experience managing rosters, workloads and day-to-day operations in a busy environment.
• An understanding of KPIs, budgets and business performance, and the ability to turn results into practical improvements.
• Strong organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise when things get busy.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
• A fair, hands-on leadership style that balances accountability with recognising good work.
• A willingness to learn new systems, processes and the requirements of the dental industry.
