Job summary

The Y is seeking Lifeguards for Peter Krenz Leisure Centre in Bendigo to provide a safe swimming environment for all visitors. You will monitor pool areas, enforce rules with a friendly, patient approach, and respond quickly to any safety concerns.

Ideal candidates will be vigilant, team-oriented and capable of multitasking in a busy leisure centre setting. Casual hours with an hourly rate up to AU$34.96 plus Superannuation and Y benefits.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard certificate required to work in aquatic spaces.
• CPR certification HLTAID009 must be current.
• First Aid certification HLTAID011 required at start of employment.

Responsibilities

• Supervising a large aquatic space to ensure a safe environment.
• Maintaining continuous observation of pools and patrons to anticipate issues.
• Educating users about safe aquatic practices while enforcing facility rules.
• Taking intervention and preventative actions to protect patrons, facility and equipment.

About the Centre

The Peter Krenz Leisure Centre is owned by the City of Greater Bendigo and proudly managed by the YMCA. The Centre provides a wide range of programs and activities, including Learn to Swim, Group Fitness, Recreational Swimming, Health and Fitness, Stadium and Squash hire. The main goal of the YMCA is to provide opportunities for all people to be more active, more often and help them reach their personal fitness goals. Our friendly team is highly qualified and has the experience to help you reach your training goals – whatever they may be.

About the role

As a Lifeguard at Peter Krenz Leisure Centre, you’ll help provide a safe swimming environment for all centre visitors. You’ll be patient, focused and friendly to keep pool-users informed and safe. Duties of the role include:

• Supervising a large aquatic space while pro-actively ensuring a safe environment in and around the pool area
• Maintaining concentrated observation of pools and patrons to anticipate and respond to problems
• Ensuring facility rules are being obeyed whilst at the same time educating facility users about safe aquatic practices
• Carrying out intervention and preventative action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment

This is a casual position and the hourly rate is up to $34.96 + Superannuation + Y benefits.

About you

We are seeking motivated, organised and pro-active Lifeguards to come and join the team. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and all facility users. Other required qualities are:

• Ability to make decisions while under pressure
• Being able to manage conflicts with patrons and users
• Ability to stay alert and vigilant in a repetitive work environment
• Ability to multitask
• Providing excellent customer service for all members and guests
• Experience in the Aquatics and Leisure industry will be highly regarded

Essential Qualifications

• Aquatic Pool Lifeguard Certificate
• HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
