Job summary

Tassal Operations in Proserpine seeks a Feed Technician to manage automated feeding systems and ensure prawns receive precise feed amounts for optimal health and growth.

This full-time, max-term role runs on a 7/7 roster with a competitive hourly rate plus a prawn farming allowance. The successful candidate will maintain equipment, adhere to safety standards, and collaborate with operations to optimise feeding strategies.

Job description

The role:

As a Feed Technician at our Proserpine-based prawn farm, you will be essential to our farm's success, ensuring our prawns receive the precise amount of feed at the right time. Your work directly contributes to the health and quality of our stock. You will be responsible for the maintenance and optimisation of our automated feeding systems, working closely with the operations team to achieve the best possible results.

This is a full-time max term position concluding in April 2027, operating on a 7/7 roster.

Responsibilities:

• Operating and managing automated feeding systems to ensure optimal prawn health and growth.
• Conducting regular inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of feeders, hydrophones, and feed pipes.
• Proactively identifying and resolving mechanical issues with feeding equipment to minimise downtime.
• Collaborating with the farm operations and central feed teams to refine and optimise feeding strategies.
• Strictly adhering to all company quality assurance and safety standards and procedures.

Role requirements:

• A strong mechanical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.
• The ability to work confidently in challenging conditions, including in and around water.
• Reliability and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to follow instructions precisely.
• Must have reliable transport and the legal right to work in Australia.
• An eagerness to learn, adapt to new challenges, and contribute to a positive team environment.

Role offerings:

• Full-time contract position until end of April 2027.
• Competitive hourly rate with an additional $360 per fortnight (pro-rata) prawn farming allowance
