Job summary

Tomago Aluminium is seeking an experienced Plant Services Superintendent to lead a critical maintenance portfolio at their Newcastle-area smelter. You will develop leaders, drive safety culture and partner with Ops and Maint leaders to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and champion safety, health and environmental culture while driving continuous improvement in EHS performance.
• Develop, coach and mentor a team of Shift Supervisors to achieve operational excellence.
• Provide leadership and strategic direction for Plant Services maintenance activities.
• Own and manage key Plant Services contracts, including commercial performance, contractor relationships, contract negotiations and delivery against agreed outcomes.
• Optimise resources, systems and processes to deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective operational outcomes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety, quality, reliability and productivity.
• Work collaboratively with operational, maintenance and technical teams to optimise performance.
• Manage budgets, operational costs and performance against business objectives.
• Support employee relations activities and maintaining positive workplace culture.
• Ensure compliance with site procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced and people-focused leader to join our Plant Services team as the Plant Services Superintendent. This is an opportunity to lead a critical maintenance portfolio that underpins the performance and reliability of our smelter, while developing leaders, driving continuous improvement and strengthening our strong safety culture.

Reporting to the Plant Services Manager, you will lead a team of experienced Supervisors and Maintenance Staff. Working closely with Ops and Maint leaders, you will play a key role in shaping safety, operational performance and team capability while delivering safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes across the business.

What you’ll be doing

You are an experienced maintenance leader who thrives in a complex industrial environment and enjoys developing people, improving performance and delivering results safely. You bring strong technical and operational credibility, influence outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups and have a passion for building capability and driving continuous improvement.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance leaders to deliver performance, build team capability and drive continuous improvement through others
• Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organisation
• Commercial acumen, including experience managing contractor performance, budgets and contract negotiations
• A demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes, operational excellence and continuous improvement
• Exceptional planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver results
• Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and SAP or similar business systems
• Experience coaching and developing frontline leaders within a blue‑collar operational environment
• Relevant engineering, trade, leadership or business qualifications
• Formal leadership training, postgraduate business qualifications and experience leading change initiatives will be highly regarded
• A track record of identifying and implementing improvements that enhance safety, productivity, quality or cost performance
