Job summary

Ballina Shire Council is seeking a Road Construction and Maintenance Labourer to support the Engineering Works section across the Shire. You will operate plant such as rollers and patching trucks, perform labouring tasks on roads, cycleways and drainage, and contribute to safety and efficiency on site.

The role requires tickets in at least roller operations, with additional training available. A MR/C driver licence and White Card are essential, with willingness to obtain further tickets.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience operating road plant such as Roller, Patching Truck, Street Sweeper or Tractor.
• Able to operate plant in diverse locations across the Shire.
• Experience in road construction and maintenance of roads and roadsides.
• Capable of performing a range of physical labour tasks.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Valid licences/tickets or willingness to obtain required tickets.

Responsibilities

• Operate Roller, Patching Truck, Street Sweeper or Tractor as part of road construction projects.
• Conduct labouring duties for roads, drains, kerb and guttering, and related assets.
• Support Engineering Works with maintenance and construction activities across the Shire.
• Follow safety policies and work efficiently in varying locations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Reporting to the Supervisor, this position is responsible for predominantly operating a roller to assist inthe completion of road construction and maintenance projects. The position will also assist in operatingother plant items including trucks, front end loaders and slashers. The role requires the ability to operateplant items in a range of work locations and environments throughout the Shire.

A key responsibility of the position will be to conduct a variety of labouring duties associated with theconstruction and general maintenance of roads, roadsides, footpaths, cycleways, kerb and guttering,drainage, bridge structures and all other assets for the Engineering Works section.

To be successful you will bring

• Demonstrated experience in the operation in at least one the following plant items: Roller, Patching Truck, Street Sweeper or Tractor and basic mechanical knowledge.
• Willingness to operate and obtain tickets in a variety of plant including Roller, Patching Truck, Street Sweeper or Tractor and basic mechanical knowledge.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience in road construction and maintenance duties associated with roads and roadsides.
• Demonstrated experience in and ability to perform a range of physical labouring duties.
• Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
• Class MR driver licence, or Class C driver licence with the willingness to upgrade.
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).
• Chainsaw Level 1 (Crosscut) ticket (or willingness to obtain).
• Traffic Controller Ticket (or willingness to obtain)
• Implement Traffic Control Plans ticket (or willingness to obtain).
• Working Near Overhead Power Lines ticket (or willingness to obtain).

• A salary range of $61,600 to $70,800 per annum (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
