Job summary

Ballina Shire Council in Ballina, NSW, is seeking a vigilant plant operator to support road construction and maintenance projects. You will predominantly operate a roller and other plant items across the Shire, with labouring duties on roads, footpaths, drainage and related assets.

The role requires a Class C licence, White Card, good safety mindset and the ability to work across multiple sites. Ballina Shire Council offers flexible arrangements (9-day fortnight/4-day week), development

Qualifications

• Experience operating roller and plant items with basic mechanical knowledge.

• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
• Knowledge of WHS, environmental management and risk practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate a roller to support road construction and maintenance projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Reporting to the Supervisor, this position is responsible for predominantly operating a roller to assist in the completion of road construction and maintenance projects. The position will also assist in operating other plant items including trucks, front end loaders and slashers. The role requires the ability to operate plant items in a range of work locations and environments throughout the Shire.

A key responsibility of the position will be to conduct a variety of labouring duties associated with the construction and general maintenance of roads, roadsides, footpaths, cycleways, kerb and guttering, drainage, bridge structures and all other assets for the Engineering Works section.

• Demonstrated experience in the operation of a roller and other plant items (such as tractor/slasher, front end loader, backhoe, etc.), with basic mechanical knowledge.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience in road construction and maintenance duties associated with roads and roadsides.
• Demonstrated experience in and ability to perform a range of physical labouring duties.
• Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
• Class C driver licence with the ability to operate manual transmission and a good a safe driving record.
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).
• Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of equal employment opportunity, work health and safety, environmental management and risk management and an ability to apply them to the work practices.

• A salary range of $61,600 to $70,800 per annum (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
