Job summary

Ballina Shire Council is seeking a motivated operator to manage roller and associated plant across the Ballina Shire. The role includes labouring duties for roads, drainage and related assets, with responsibilities across various sites and weather conditions.

The successful candidate will hold a C-class licence, White Card, and experience with road construction tasks, delivering work safely and efficiently in a dynamic council environment.

Qualifications

• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).
• Knowledge and understanding of EEO, WHS, environmental management and risk practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate roller and other plant items across multiple sites within the Shire.
• Perform general labouring for roads, roadsides, footpaths and drainage.
• Assist in operating trucks, front-end loaders and slashers as required.
• Uphold safety, WHS and environmental practices on site.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

Reporting to the Supervisor, this position is responsible for predominantly operating a roller to assist inthe completion of road construction and maintenance projects. The position will also assist in operatingother plant items including trucks, front end loaders and slashers. The role requires the ability to operateplant items in a range of work locations and environments throughout the Shire.

A key responsibility of the position will be to conduct a variety of labouring duties associated with theconstruction and general maintenance of roads, roadsides, footpaths, cycleways, kerb and guttering,drainage, bridge structures and all other assets for the Engineering Works section.

• Demonstrated experience in the operation of a roller and other plant items (such as tractor/slasher, front end loader, backhoe, etc.), with basic mechanical knowledge.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience in road construction and maintenance duties associated with roads and roadsides.
• Demonstrated experience in and ability to perform a range of physical labouring duties.
• Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written.
• Class C driver licence with the ability to operate manual transmission and a good a safe driving record.
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry Induction ticket (white card).
• Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of equal employment opportunity, work health and safety, environmental management and risk management and an ability to apply them to the work practices.

• A salary range of $61,600 to $70,800 per annum (plus 12% superannuation) dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications.
