Job summary

Barcaldine Regional Council in Alpha, Queensland, is seeking a Plant Operator (Roller) to safely operate Council plant and support road construction across the Barcaldine region. The role requires daily plant inspections and collaboration with a small team to deliver essential regional projects.

You will need a minimum 2 years of plant operating experience, a QLD Class 'C' licence, and a White/Blue Card. The position offers 76 hours over 9 days with an RDO and provides base salary with

Position Details

Location: This position is based in Alpha with regional work and travel as required.

Classification Level: Level 5 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017 and the Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.

Wage: Minimum base salary of $70,474.56 per annum + Superannuation (up to 12%) and relevant approved allowances.

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.

Hours of Work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.

Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

The Role

As a Plant Operator (Roller), you will be primarily responsible for safely and efficiently operating Council plant and equipment to support road construction and maintenance activities across the Barcaldine region. You will undertake daily plant inspections and routine maintenance checks, while working collaboratively with the team to support the safe and effective delivery of Council’s road infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced plant operator who takes pride in safe and efficient plant operation, teamwork and contributing to the maintenance and improvement of essential regional infrastructure.

To Be Successful You Will Have:

• Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council's Satisfaction
• Completion of a Pre-Employment Medical Examination to Council's Satisfaction
• General Safety Induction Card (White/Blue Card) or Equivalent
• Minimum QLD Class 'C' Drivers Licence
• Minimum 2 years of plant operating experience, with a focus on roller operation
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills Highly regarded, but not required
• Traffic Controller Licence (desirable)
• Traffic Management Implementation Qualification (desirable)
• QLD Class 'HC' Drivers Licence (desirable)
