Job summary

Barcaldine Regional Council is seeking a skilled Plant Operator (Grader) to safely operate the grader and related plant across the Barcaldine region, supporting road construction and maintenance with a focus on quality workmanship and teamwork. The role requires at least 2 years of plant operation experience, strong communication, and a commitment to safety.

The position offers a base salary around $75k per year plus superannuation and allowances, with 76-hour fortnights and a rostered day off,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating plant or heavy machinery
  • General safety induction and compliance with safety policies
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Desirable: Traffic Controller Licence (not required)

Responsibilities

  • Operate Council grader and other plant/equipment to support road construction/maintenance
  • Work with the team to maintain and improve road networks
  • Follow safety procedures and quality standards during operations
  • Assist with daily roading tasks and equipment checks

Job description

Location: This position is based in Aramac with regional work and travel as required.

Classification Level: Level 6 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017 and the Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.

Wage: Minimum base salary of $75,471.45 per annum + Superannuation (up to 12%) and relevant approved allowances.

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.

Hours of Work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.

Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading.Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

The Role

As a Plant Operator (Grader), you will be primarily responsible for safely and effectively operating Council’s grader and other plant and equipment to support road construction and maintenance activities across the Barcaldine region. You will work collaboratively with the team to maintain and improve Council’s road network, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled plant operator with grader experience who takes pride in quality workmanship, safe operation, teamwork and contributing to essential regional infrastructure.

To Be Successful You Will Have:
  • Completion of a National Criminal History Check to Council's Satisfaction
  • Completion of a Pre-Employment Medical Examination to Council's Satisfaction
  • General Safety Induction Card (White/Blue Card) or Equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years' experience operating plant
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Highly regarded, but not required
  • Traffic Controller Licence (desirable)
