Job summary

Australian National University in Canberra is seeking a part-time Research Officer to support a biology research team. You will perform DNA/RNA extractions, prepare libraries for sequencing on ONT and other platforms, and contribute to data processing and analysis.

The role may involve sampling, marker design and fieldwork for endangered species, with responsibilities including project support and basic lab maintenance. Collaboration and strong organization are essential.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in plant DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and library preparation for sequencing.
• Experience with ONT and/or other sequencing platforms; willingness to learn basic bioinformatics.
• Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods; experimental design and data collection.
• Strong communication, organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks independently or in teams.
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel; experience with R and DNA sequence analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform high quality DNA/RNA extractions from plant tissues.
• Prepare DNA/RNA libraries for sequencing on ONT and other platforms.
• Process and analyze sequencing data.
• Assist with sampling, design and testing of diagnostic markers for endangered species.
• Support project delivery, order supplies, and maintain the laboratory.
