Job summary

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking a Technical Officer in Molecular Genetics to support research and breeding projects for Victoria's crops. You will perform high-throughput DNA extraction, sample processing and genotyping, and manage associated data in a collaborative team.

Based at AgriBio, Bundoora, this 12-month fixed-term role emphasizes method development, data integrity and safety. Flexible hybrid work arrangements are supported.

Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge and experience in laboratory methods for genetics and genomics, with emphasis on genomic DNA isolation, next-generation DNA genotyping and sequencing technologies.
• Experience in high-throughput molecular genetics and genomics workflows, including use of liquid handling robotics.
• Ability to plan work, manage resourcing, and organize tasks across multiple activities to meet timelines.
• Ability to troubleshoot and improve molecular genetics workflows, including genotyping and sequencing methodologies.
• Ability to collaborate with researchers and stakeholders and mentor colleagues.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping in electronic databases.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-throughput laboratory activities including DNA extraction, sample processing and genotyping.
• Generate and manage molecular data for crop improvement programs and research projects.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and follow established protocols and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and develop new assays and laboratory processes.
• Collaborate effectively with researchers and team members., contribute to mentoring colleagues.
