Job summary

Latrobe City Council is seeking a Planning Compliance Officer to investigate planning enforcement matters and conduct site inspections, audits and investigations. You will prepare reports and documentation for matters proceeding to VCAT or court and provide specialist advice on compliance matters.

You will work with property owners, developers and the community to promote understanding of planning controls, encouraging ongoing compliance and continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience or qualifications in statutory planning, compliance, regulation or related field.
• Ability to interpret and apply planning legislation, policies and procedures.
• Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.

What You’ll be Doing

• Investigate planning compliance matters and undertake enforcement activities in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policies.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and investigations, gathering evidence and preparing recommendations on compliance matters.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, prosecution briefs and documentation for matters proceeding to VCAT or the Magistrates' Court.
• Work with property owners, developers, businesses and community members to promote understanding of planning controls and encourage compliance.
• Provide specialist advice on planning compliance matters and contribute to the continuous improvement of enforcement processes and procedures.

About You

• Has experience or qualifications in statutory planning, compliance, regulation or a related field.
• Can confidently interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures.
• Possesses strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Has excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Can work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Demonstrates sound judgement, professionalism and a customer-focused approach.

Key Selection Critieria

• Demonstrated experience in carrying out enforcement and compliance activities, having regard to, and an understanding of the Planning and Environment Act and Regulations, Planning Appeals Act and Regulations, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal Act, Subdivision Act and the Latrobe Planning Scheme.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise, coordinate and communicate with a diverse range of people and organisations.
• Proven ability in managing time, meeting deadlines and prioritising work.
• Demonstrated customer service skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
