Job summary

Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced Nurse Unit Manager for the Perioperative Services with leadership responsibilities across Anaesthetics and PACU. This permanent full-time role is 38 hours per week and includes salary packaging opportunities and not-for-profit benefits.

The NUM leads the clinical team, drives patient-centred outcomes, oversees staffing, budgeting, equipment, and quality activities, and collaborates with VMO and department leaders to ensure high standards

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years extensive experience in Perioperative area (Anaesthetics and/or PACU).
• Current coordinator or team leader experience.
• Current or previous Nurse Unit Manager experience desirable.
• Experience with Mater systems (Kronos, Confluence, D365, ERIC) desirable.
• Post graduate qualification certificate desirable.
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards for Anaesthetics and PACU.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and problem-solving ability.
• Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Understanding of budget management and sustainability.

Responsibilities

• Support and coordinate daily operating theatre activities.
• Oversee staffing adjustments for patient safety and budget management.
• Organise and oversee equipment.
• Manage rosters, leave approvals, performance reviews and competencies.
• Investigate and follow up ERIC reporting.
• Staff leave and fatigue management, performance management.
• Recruitment and retention.
• Liaise with VMO and reps regarding requests and equipment needs.
• Engage in quality activities and attend meetings.
• Assist Perioperative Services Manager and Assistant Director Clinical Services.
• Cover early and late shifts as per NUM plan.
• Oversee Anaesthetics, PACU and PACA areas within Perioperative.
