Job summary

Mission Australia is seeking a part-time Peer Support Worker (27 hours per week) in Broken Hill to join our Safe Haven team. You will use lived experience to support people in psychological distress or suicidal crisis in a welcoming, non-clinical setting, aligned with NSW Health partnerships.

You will engage individuals, help develop recovery plans, connect them with services, document outcomes, and participate in team learning and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Lived experience of mental ill health and recovery.
• A strong understanding of professional boundaries and recovery-oriented practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to obtain Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and engage people in distress in a safe, supportive environment.
• Collaborate with clinicians to ensure appropriate supports are in place.
• Build trusting relationships to foster hope and recovery.
• Help consumers develop individual recovery and safety plans.
• Connect people with community supports and networks.
• Provide individual and group peer support activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation and safety plans.
