Job summary

Community Accommodation and Support Agency Inc. (CASA) in Mackay seeks a dedicated outreach worker to locate and engage with people experiencing rough sleeping.

You will assess immediate needs, provide information and referrals, and coordinate with government and NGO partners to connect clients with housing, health and support services. You will build trust with diverse clients, document case notes, and contribute to a safe team environment while working in the Mackay region.

Qualifications

  • Experience in community services, homelessness, housing, AOD, mental health, corrections, or related field.
  • Strong engagement skills and ability to build rapport with people who may be reluctant to engage with services.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Sound assessment, case management and advocacy skills.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred practice.
  • Ability to assess risk and make appropriate decisions in community environments.
  • Strong professional boundaries and resilience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and accurate, timely case notes and reporting.
  • Proficiency with computer-based systems, data entry and reporting; able to learn new systems.
  • Current Queensland Class C Driver Licence.
  • Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
  • Supportive and experienced team.

About you


  • Experience working within community services, homelessness, housing, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental health, corrections, or another related field

  • Strong engagement skills and the ability to build rapport with people who may be reluctant to engage with services

  • Cultural awareness and the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds

  • Sound assessment, case management and advocacy skills

  • An understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred practice

  • The ability to assess risk and make appropriate decisions in community-based environments

  • Strong professional boundaries and resilience

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders, and maintain accurate, clear and timely case notes, records and reporting

  • Confidence with computer-based systems, record keeping, data entry and reporting, with the ability to learn new systems and processes

  • Current Queensland Class C Driver Licence

  • Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
