Job summary

Sims Metal Management Ltd. is seeking a hands-on Yard Operator at our Brisbane site. You will operate a range of mobile plant and equipment, load and unload materials, and support safe yard operations in line with environmental and quality standards.

You will need a valid forklift licence, proven equipment experience, and a strong commitment to health and safety. The role includes teamwork, mentorship of colleagues, and providing excellent service to drivers and customers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Load and unload trucks, skip bins, and trailers safely and efficiently.
• Operate plant and equipment, including forklifts, material handlers, loaders, and excavators.
• Grade, sort, and manage ferrous and non-ferrous metals to meet operational and quality requirements.
• Assist with receiving, processing, and dispatching materials.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety procedures.
• Identify and report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
• Assist with general yard duties and other operational tasks as required.
• Provide outstanding customer service to drivers and customers.

Operator

Reporting to the Yard Manager, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient operation of our recycling yard. You'll operate a range of mobile plant and equipment, including excavators, forklifts, to sort, grade and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

This is a hands-on, physically active role where you'll also support general yard operations, assist with loading and unloading materials, maintain housekeeping standards, and contribute to the smooth running of the site. Working as part of a committed team, you'll help ensure all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with operational, environmental and quality standards.
