Job summary

Bowen Rail Company is seeking an Operations Supervisor (Training) to lead safety-focused training and competency programs for Train Crews in Queensland. You will develop training plans, oversee assessments, and collaborate with senior operations staff to ensure consistent, compliant outcomes.

The role requires HVAC-like leadership and hands‑on delivery, with a 7/7 FIFO roster or 5 on/5 off residential options in Bowen. Strong communication and a current licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Train Driving and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
• SARC - Safely Access the Rail Corridor (nationally accredited).
• Experience as a Registered Trainer Assessor delivering nationally accredited train driving units is desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and professional presentation skills.
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and systems).
• Availability to work a 7/7 roster covering day and night shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
• Current Class C driver's licence.

Responsibilities

Bowen Rail Company has an exciting opportunity for an Operations Supervisor (Training) to join our Rail Operations team.

Reporting to the Operations Superintendent (Training), in this role you will provide leadership, training support enabling our operations performance within the Rail Operations. Responsible for verification of competency in respective work areas as well as developing training packages, delivery of classroom and on the job training, refresher training, and assessment using approved training and assessment documentation.

This role has a roster of 7 on / 7 off FIFO suitable for candidates located in, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay or Cairns or 5 on 5 off Residential located in Bowen.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety leadership - set the standard for safety at Bowen Rail Company, demonstrating visible safety leadership aligned to our values and embedding hazard identification, risk evaluation and risk control as the foundation of the business.
• Competency assurance - ensure Train Crew and Trainee Train Crew are competent to perform rail safety work and comply with Rail Safety Standards, including technical training, assessment, compliance, currency and records for Rail Safety Workers.
• Training plans - develop, facilitate and maintain individual training plans that deliver on business goals.
• Assessment scheduling - coordinate Train Crew and Trainee Train Crew to complete competency assessments on or before due dates.
• Stakeholder collaboration - work closely with the Operations Superintendent - Training and Operations Superintendent - Rail Ops to deliver reliable, consistent assessment outcomes.
• Coaching and mentoring - coach and mentor train crew and trainees to build their safety capability and personal development, providing the information, instruction, training and supervision needed to work safely and competently.
• Performance reporting - track, communicate and manage training needs analysis KPIs so safety and training compliance align with business and customer expectations, and support investigations of operational incidents or non-conformances with accurate records and reporting per BRC procedures.
• Program governance - develop, implement, monitor and review competency performance including the Verification of Competency program, and provide accurate, timely advice on BRC training and competency policies and procedures.
