Foodchain in Western Australia is seeking an Operations Manager to design and implement structure that ensures orders are picked, packed and delivered accurately and on time. You will be the first point of contact for the team and will lead, develop, and coach staff while allowing the directors to focus on customers, suppliers and strategic direction.
The role requires hands-on warehousing experience, a strong continuous improvement mindset, and proficiency with Pronto or similar WMS.
Foodchain is an independent foodservice and packaging company that specialises in supplying WA-based cafes, restaurants, and hotels. Owned and operated by two local brothers since 2009 who were born and raised within their family's dairy milk delivery service - they have lived and breathed this industry their whole lives. The company is built on the pride of delivering a reliable, consistent, and dependable service that is rooted in traditional industry values.
Due to growth in the business, we are now looking for an operations manager to join us in a newly created role. This role will build a clear structure that improves the way work gets done; ensuring orders picked, packed and delivered accurately and on time. This role will be the first point of contact for all team members and will play a pivotal role in leading and developing staff, allowing the managing directors to spend more time on customers, suppliers and the direction of the business.
Key responsibilities

Overseeing stock put-away, ensuring products are stored in the correct locations and temperature zones.
Managing stock control, including stock accuracy, stocktakes, stock rotation and investigating discrepancies.
Organising restocking and replenishment so picking locations are ready for daily orders.
Managing picking, packing, dispatch and delivery operations.
Organising workloads and start times so people know what they’re responsible for.
Improving warehouse layout, stock locations and the flow of work from receiving through to dispatch.
Leading the team, developing team leads and addressing performance issues.

Making better use of Pronto and assessing whether we need a warehouse management system.
Helping implement the right systems and teaching the team how to use them.
Keeping warehouse operations safe, organised and ready for further growth.
About you
Practical experience in warehousing, picking, packing, stock locations and dispatch, with a good understanding of how to organise these activities efficiently.
Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and experience using WMS and improving warehouse processes. Pronto experience would be highly regarded.
Able to lead people, set expectations, develop team leads and manage performance. Comfortable having direct conversations, listening to staff and following through on problems rather than walking past them.
Switched on, organised and interested in finding better ways to do things. Able to use operational data and simple reporting to make decisions.
Comfortable working in a smaller, owner-run business where improvements need to be practical and affordable.
The warehouse opens at 2am. The Operations Manager will need flexibility to attend early starts, including 2am on some days, to understand and manage the operation.
