Job summary

Queensland Health is seeking a Team Leader to manage phlebotomy, specimen collection and reception services at Redland Hospital. In consultation with the Supervising Scientist, you will ensure procedures meet NATA, ISO and Pathology Queensland standards.

You will lead teams, oversee workflow, liaise with stakeholders, and drive continuous quality improvement within a supportive, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

• Well-developed knowledge of Phlebotomy procedures.
• Knowledge of specimen collection procedures.
• Familiarity with pathology information systems AUSLAB and Cerner Millennium.
• Strong teamwork and communication with stakeholders.
• Experience leading teams and sustaining quality systems.

Job description

To manage, coordinate and assist in providing phlebotomy, specimen collection and specimen reception services to the Redland Hospital. Your team leader position will, in consultation with the Supervising Scientist, ensure that all Phlebotomy and Central Specimen Reception procedures comply with NATA, ISO and Pathology Queensland's policies and protocols.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

• Well-developed knowledge of Phlebotomy procedures or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and skills in this area.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the procedures and processes of Specimen Collection or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and skills in this area.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Pathology information systems [eg AUSLAB, and Cerner Millenium] and their relationship to maintain an effective laboratory practice, with the ability to trouble shoot and other functionalities for correlation and the recording of statistics.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and the ability to communicate effectively with all stake holders.
• Proven ability to manage time effectively and demonstrated ability to lead teams to positive outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain quality systems that meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices with reference to Queensland Health Code of Conduct, employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
• Demonstrated commitment to professional self-development.
