Job summary

Queensland Health is offering a permanent part-time Clinical Assistant Specimen Collection role, 40 hours per fortnight, based in Queensland. You will perform phlebotomy and specimen collection, support laboratory operations, and ensure compliance with confidentiality and QA frameworks.

Working both independently and with a team, you will contribute to safe, high-quality pathology services, assist with documentation, reporting, and participate in rostering across a seven-day cycle.

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection across inpatients and outpatients.

• Support ongoing education and participate in training activities.
• Contribute to seven-day service delivery and rostering as required.

Job description

Take the next step in your career with this exciting opportunity within Queensland Health! This is a permanent part-time opportunity (40 hours per fortnight).

What you'll do

As the Clinical Assistant Specimen Collection, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality pathology services through the safe and efficient collection of patient specimens and support of laboratory operations. You will perform phlebotomy and specimen collection activities in accordance with Pathology Queensland guidelines, while undertaking specimen reception, courier and general laboratory duties as required. Working both independently and collaboratively, you will provide exceptional service to patients, clinicians and other stakeholders, exercise initiative to resolve routine and moderately complex issues, and maintain competency across all aspects of specimen collection. You will contribute to a culture of continuous learning by participating in ongoing education, training and staff development, while ensuring compliance with patient confidentiality requirements, ethical standards and quality assurance frameworks. In addition, you will support NATA accreditation requirements, assist with procedural documentation and statistical reporting, and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and patient-focused pathology services across a seven-day roster.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

• Demonstrated in-depth, or ability to acquire knowledge of specimen collection, and the ability to perform phlebotomy on a wide range of patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
• Demonstrated client focus skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with a wide range of clients and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner with and without direct supervision. Ability to prioritize workloads to meet specific deadlines.
• Ability to work shifts as rostered to ensure service provision to our clients.
• A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and an understanding of the basis of laboratory Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs.
