Job summary

Queensland Health's Redcliffe Laboratory, part of the Prince Charles Hospital Group, is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist. The role centers on specimen collection, phlebotomy, and adherence to policies while serving patients across the Redcliffe Hospital group and possibly at Brighton Health Care Facility.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a hospital setting, ensuring accurate data entry and ongoing quality improvement.

• Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in specimen collection and phlebotomy.
• Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of standard precautions.
• Follow instructions and work conscientiously with minimal supervision.
• Communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
• Maintain patient care focus within a hospital health care environment.
• Commitment to quality management and continuous quality improvement.
• Demonstrate data entry skills with attention to detail.
• Experience in or ability to learn pre-analytical processes in a large specimen reception unit.

Job description

The Redcliffe Laboratory is part of the Prince Charles Hospital Group of Laboratories, which also includes The Prince Charles and Caboolture Hospital Laboratories. While Redcliffe Hospital will be your primary work location, you may be required to work across the group, including at Brighton Health Care Facility, with appropriate consultation.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

• Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including canulation and the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
• Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
• Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
• Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
• Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
• Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
• Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical process in a large and complex specimen reception unit.
