Job summary

Macs Engineering in Mackay, Queensland, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our laser cutting and fabrication teams. This hands-on role combines planning, production control, and safety with a focus on meeting customer deadlines.

You will oversee purchasing, inventory, maintenance of plant and equipment, and quality assurance, reporting weekly to management. CAD proficiency and strong leadership are essential for success in our small but growing team.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Operations Manager.
• Strong technical background in Engineering and operational leadership.
• Experience in steel handling, processing, fabrication, welding and manufacturing.
• Familiarity with quality assurance, contract documentation and SOPs.
• Willing to go into the workshop and efficiently organise projects and tasks.
• Strong personnel and communication skills.
• Proficient in CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Planning production and where necessary re-organising to best meet production and customer deliverables.
• Helping out in production where required to ensure delivery timelines are kept.
• Ensure that production is running efficiently and according to schedule.
• Overseeing and ensuring that purchasing and inventory management is completed in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Overseeing the invoicing and receipting of payments as per company requirements.
• Coordinate and monitor maintenance and repairs to plant and equipment.
• Minimise error & waste by implementing a stringent quality control process.
• Manage the overall OH&S responsibilities on site.
• Reporting to the General Manager and Production Manager on a weekly basis to set targets and future direction.
• Other duties and responsibilities as directed from time to time.

Macs Engineering and Opposite Lock is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of medium truck bodies, light vehicle tray bodies, roll over protection systems (ROPS), laser cutting operations and other specialist vehicle componentry in Mackay.

Macs Engineering’s laser cutting operations is currently seeking a Operations Manager to join our small team. This role will provide training and growth for the right applicant but experience in CNC laser operation is essential.

About You

The successful candidate will possess the following experience and skills:

• Experience as an Operations Manager

• A strong technical background in Engineering and operational leadership

• Experience in steel handling, processing, fabrication, welding and manufacturing

• Familiarity with quality assurance, contract documentation and SOP's

• Eager to go into the workshop and efficiently organise projects and tasks

• Strong personnel and communication skills

• Willing to work respectfully in a team environment (including in other areas within a fabrication environment)

• Proficient in CAD software
