Job summary

Summit Health Solutions ACT Pty LTd is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our Canberra team. You will work in community settings across Canberra, focusing on home safety, equipment prescription and assistive technology to help clients remain independent.

We support clinicians with admin tasks; your role emphasizes clinical reasoning, person-centred assessments and timely reporting. Both early-career and experienced OTs are encouraged to apply, with flexible full-time or part-time options

Qualifications

Occupational Therapist - Community | Home Modifications | Assistive Technology

Canberra ACT | $80,000-$100,000 + super, depending on experience | Full-time or Part-time

At Summit Health Solutions, we've built our community allied health service around a simple idea: clinicians should be able to spend their time doing clinical work.

Our dedicated administration team manages your bookings, scheduling, referral administration and invoicing, giving you more time to be with your clients, think through the problem in front of you, research the right solution and write a report you're confident putting your name to.

You’ll work with people in their own homes, where Occupational Therapy can have an immediate and practical impact – helping someone use their bathroom safely, access their home, find the right equipment, regain confidence with everyday activities or simply continue living independently.

We're looking for an early-career through to experienced Occupational Therapist who enjoys practical problem-solving and wants to develop or build on their skills in community OT, assistive technology and home modifications.

Good clinical work takes time. We want to give you more of it.

The Role

You’ll work predominantly with adults and older Australians in their homes across Canberra and the surrounding region.

Your caseload will include a combination of:

• Functional and home safety assessments
• Home modification assessments and recommendations
• Assistive technology and equipment assessment, trials and prescription
• Falls prevention and environmental risk assessment
• ADL and functional independence assessment
• Therapy and reablement-based sessions
• Clinical reports and funding recommendations
• Equipment and home modification follow-up
• Collaboration with clients, families, Care Managers, suppliers and other health professionals

Our clients access services through aged care, Support at Home, NDIS and private funding, providing a varied community caseload and the opportunity to build strong skills in helping people remain independent at home.

What We Expect

We're not looking for someone who simply completes an assessment template.

We want our OTs to be curious about the person in front of them and develop the clinical reasoning to understand:

What matters to this person? What is making everyday life difficult? What did I observe? What options could work? What am I recommending – and why is it the right solution for this person?

You’ll be expected to deliver person-centred assessments, communicate clearly with clients and referrers, maintain quality clinical documentation and manage your allocated caseload and reports.

We also expect you to recognise when something sits outside your current experience and seek clinical support when needed.

Early-Career or Experienced - There's Room for Both

For an early-career OT, We're looking for good foundations, curiosity and a genuine interest in community practice. You’ll have the opportunity to build your capability in equipment prescription, home modifications, aged care, NDIS, clinical reasoning and report writing, with caseload complexity increasing alongside your experience.

For an experienced OT, we can offer greater autonomy and a caseload that draws on your existing skills in community assessment, assistive technology, equipment and home modifications.

Experience in community OT, aged care, NDIS, assistive technology or home modifications is highly regarded, but you don’t need to arrive knowing every funding system or every piece of equipment.

What Summit Takes Care Of

Community clinicians shouldn’t have to run an administration service around their own caseload.

Our administration team manages:

• Client bookings and appointment scheduling
• Diary coordination
• Referral administrationInvoicing and billing
• Routine non-clinical administration

You remain responsible for the clinical work: assessments, client communication, clinical reasoning, stakeholder liaison, documentation and reports.

It's a simple distinction, but it makes a meaningful difference to your working week.
