Job summary

Paxus Australia Pty Ltd. is seeking a Systems Engineer II to join the 24x7 NOC in Melbourne. You will monitor alarms, resolve issues, and collaborate with production, QA and development environments to uphold stringent SLAs.

The role combines Linux/Unix system administration with Cisco/Juniper network troubleshooting. You will follow SOPs, handle escalations from junior engineers, and contribute to knowledge bases and ticketing workflows.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
CCNA or RHCSA certification required.
1–3 years of networking or systems support experience.
Experience with LAN/WAN environments and troubleshooting.
Experience with Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems.
Experience with TCP/IP, DNS, NetFlow, SNMP and Internet protocols.
Experience with BGP and OSPF routing protocols.
Previous experience in a Network Operations Centre

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and support Linux-based production systems and infrastructure.
Utilise standard Linux shell commands to diagnose Tier I/II issues on Production systems.
Troubleshoot Linux/Unix service and run-time symptoms using standard Linux commands.
Competency in managing Linux file systems and logs.
Conduct routine Enterprise patching of production/non-production environments.
Develop scripts using Python, Splunk, or other scripting languages.
Handle inquiries from customers via telephone, email, or ticketing system (ServiceNow).
Monitor system and network alarms via Netcool/Nagios.
Publish information to the knowledge base (Confluence, Wiki).
Adhere to SLA/OLA and internal processes.
Track interactions within the ticketing system and escalate as needed.
Attempt to resolve issues on first contact.
