Job summary

Southern Cross Care WA is seeking a Registered Nurse – Mental Health to provide specialist mental health nursing across residential services, with a focus on High Dependency Units. You will assess needs, develop appropriate care strategies, and support positive outcomes, while educating and guiding teams in complex mental health and psychosocial care.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
• Minimum 3+ years’ post registration nursing in aged care and mental health.
• Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of Mental Health Commission requirements and aged care standards.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and decision making skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to educate and support others.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement in complex situations.
• Valid WA Driver’s Licence and First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive nursing and mental health assessments with evidence-based tools.
• Support HDUs to maintain licensing standards and regulatory requirements.
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized care plans with residents and teams.
• Provide safe clinical nursing care and respond to emergencies.
• Educate and coach staff on mental health, dementia behaviours and de-escalation.
• Build staff capability to respond to complex mental health and psychosocial needs.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to audits and compliance.
