Job summary

Safe & Well CQ in Central Queensland seeks a Men’s Behaviour Change Practitioner/Counsellor to join our Men’s Support Services team. You will work with men who use domestic and family violence, delivering group programs and individual counselling to promote respectful relationships.

Work alongside Women’s Advocate and other services, undertake risk assessments, document progress and support survivor safety.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, behavioural science, or related discipline.
• Experience delivering men’s behaviour change interventions or related DFV practice.
• Knowledge of domestic and family violence, including gendered violence and power and control.
• Group facilitation skills with clear accountability.
• Experience in risk assessment, risk management and safety planning.
• Ability to identify minimisation, denial, victim-blaming and collusive narratives.
• Experience in delivering DFV counselling.
• Strong professional judgement and reflective practice.
• Capacity to work collaboratively within an integrated service system.
• Clear written communication and high-quality case documentation.
• Knowledge of the Human Services Quality Framework and Queensland’s DFV Practice Standards.
• Professional membership or eligibility for membership where applicable.

• Collaborate with courts, police, corrections, contributing to coordinated and integrated responses to domestic and family violence.
• Provide individual counselling to men who have experienced domestic, family or sexual violence.
• Undertake ongoing domestic and family violence risk assessment and management.
• Participate in supervision, reflective practice, professional development and program evaluation.

Safe & Well CQ is seeking an experienced practitioner to join our Men’s Support Services team.

This role works with men who use domestic and family violence, supporting them to take responsibility for their behaviour, understand its impact and make sustained changes that improve the safety and wellbeing of women, children and families.

Through structured group work and individual sessions, you will challenge the beliefs that sustain violence and support participants to develop respectful relationships, communication and problem-solving skills without violence or control.

Our approach is respectful, evidence-informed and non-collusive. Victim-survivor safety remains central to every aspect of the work.

About the role

As a Men’s Behaviour Change Practitioner, you will:

Plan, prepare and co-facilitate structured men’s behaviour change group programs;

You are a skilled practitioner with experience working with men who use violence or in specialist domestic and family violence settings. You can engage participants respectfully while maintaining clear boundaries, accountability and a strong focus on victim-survivor safety. You will bring:

A relevant tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, counselling, behavioural science, human services or a related discipline that meets the applicable Queensland Perpetrator Intervention Services Requirements;

Demonstrated experience delivering men’s behaviour change interventions or working in relevant specialist DFV practice;

Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and family violence, including gendered violence, power and control;

Group facilitation skills and the ability to engage participants while maintaining clear accountability;

Experience in risk assessment, risk management and safety planning;

The ability to identify and respond to minimisation, denial, victim-blaming and collusive narratives;

Experience in delivering DFV counselling.

Strong professional judgement, self-awareness and reflective-practice skills;

The capacity to work collaboratively within an integrated service system; and

Clear written communication and high-quality case documentation skills.

Knowledge of the Human Services Quality Framework and Queensland’s DFV Practice Standards.

Relevant professional membership or eligibility for membership, where applicable.
