Job summary

Communicare in Geraldton is seeking a Specialist Behaviour Change Facilitator for the Connect and Respect Men’s Behaviour Change Program. In this role, you will facilitate group work for men who choose to use violence, providing support to inspire positive change. You will also be involved in risk assessments and case management within a secure, therapeutic environment.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Behaviour Change Facilitator to join our Connect and Respect Men’s Behaviour Change Program.

In this role you will be part of a passionate and dedicated team delivering a specifically designed program to men who choose to use violence and abuse in their relationships with their partner(s) or family members. The program is delivered in a secure and supportive therapeutic setting and provides educational group work, informal counselling, individual case management and advocacy.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitation of group work for men who choose to use violence in intimate relationships and provide support to work towards positive change
  • Contributing to risk assessments, safety planning, case management, case note and report writing
  • Conducting specialised intake assessments of potential clients
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Respond to crisis and emotional distress of clients

This is a permanent full-time position working 76 hours a fortnight. This role is located in Geraldton, and will work within the prison setting. Due to the nature of the position and industry, there is a requirement to work outside normal business hours.

About You

You are passionate about keeping women and children safe from family domestic violence, coupled with a desire to help men change their behaviours by being educated on FDV. Additional to this, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in a human services field, and/or significant experience in a similar field
  • Ability to respond to challenging behaviours and have an understanding of the origins of these behaviours when working with clients
  • Cultural competency to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and people with disabilities
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Unrestricted driver's licence, Police clearance, Working With Children Check, and Department of Justice integrity clearance
