Job description

At Honeysuckle Health, we’re on a mission to help people lead healthier lives by connecting them with effective, affordable and personalised care. Through digital and telephonic health programs, data-driven insights and strong industry partnerships, we’re building a more connected and value-driven healthcare system for all Australians. We’re a wholly owned member of the nib Group and are merging with nib’s digital health company, Midnight Health, to form an integrated health services organisation offering a broad suite of health programs and services.

About the role

The Medical Specialist Partnership Manager designs, grows and manages Honeysuckle Health’s medical specialist networks on behalf of our insurer partners. Working closely with the Head of Medical and Ancillary Partnerships, the role builds strong, collaborative relationships with medical specialists, analyses claims and market data to shape new funding and contracting models, manages specialist agreements, and reports on network performance.

Medical specialists account for a significant share of the claims insurers pay. As healthcare costs rise and insurers focus on the affordability and sustainability of their products, well-designed specialist networks help members access high-quality care with greater certainty about out-of-pocket costs, while keeping arrangements fair and workable for specialists. Balancing the needs of specialists, members and insurers is central to this role.

This role is based in Sydney or Newcastle - candidates based in Sydney will be required to travel to Newcastle periodically. Within this role, occasional interstate travel will also be required to support business and stakeholder engagement activities. Applications are welcomed from candidates located in either Sydney or Newcastle.

Key Responsibilities

Medical network strategy and design

  • Collate and analyse claims, market and specialist feedback data to identify network opportunities for insurer partners.
  • Monitor competitor positions and medical funding approaches and compare them with those of HH’s insurer partners.
  • Recommend improvements to the design and optimisation of medical specialist networks and funding models.
  • Work with the Medical and Ancillary Partnerships and Hospital Contracting teams to align funding models and share insights.

Specialist agreements and network management

  • Manage contracted specialist relationships and agreements in line with the commercial terms of Medical Purchaser Provider Agreements (MPPAs).
  • With the Head of Medical and Ancillary Partnerships, develop incentivised agreements with specialists that deliver value for insurer partners and better outcomes for their members.
  • Oversee the registration and servicing of all network providers.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes.

Provider relationship and participation

  • Build and maintain relationships with medical specialists, practice managers and peak professional associations.
  • Provide dedicated relationship management for high-volume and strategically important provider groups.
  • Grow participation in no-gap and known-gap schemes and other medical networks.
  • Plan and coordinate provider engagement and recognition events.

Queries, complaints and provider compliance

  • Respond to direct and escalated queries from specialists, insurers and members about medical networks.
  • Act as first point of contact with providers on member complaints, audits and recoveries, billing explanations, clinical feedback and overcharging.
  • Monitor provider adherence to the terms of active MPPAs.

Performance monitoring and reporting

  • Continuously monitor network performance and identify areas needing closer analysis or improvement.
  • Contribute to regular reporting, including commentary on trends and results.

Internal enablement and insurer support

  • Provide ongoing education on medical network programs to HH teams and insurer partners.
  • Maintain channels for requesting, collecting and responding to internal queries.
  • Keep internal knowledge bases current and accurate.
  • Support insurer marketing and member communications that help members find and choose network specialists.
Candidate Criteria
  • Experience in B2B relationship management in the healthcare or medical sector, ideally with medical specialists or practices.
  • Experience managing commercial agreements or contracts, including negotiation.
  • Strong analytical skills, including interpreting claims or financial data and turning it into practical insights (advanced Excel or similar).
  • Experience documenting business requirements and recommending process improvements.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including with senior clinicians and external partners.
  • Knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS).
  • Understanding of private health insurance, including no-gap and known-gap arrangements.
  • Familiarity with medical practice operations and practitioners.
  • Tertiary qualification in health, business or a related field.
  • Play a key role in one of the most exciting healthtech businesses in Australia
  • Remote or Hybrid role with periodic travel requirements
  • Employee health insurance discounts and paid parental leave
  • Collaborative, purpose-driven team
  • Opportunities for career growth in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
