Job summary

WorkSafe Victoria is seeking a Media Advisor in Geelong (hybrid: 3 days in the office) to deliver proactive media activities and reactive advice aligned with government relations goals. The role supports Communications and External Affairs with key accountabilities across media strategy, content drafting and media events.

Based in Wadawurrung / Geelong, this full-time fixed-term position runs until 12 March 2027, with a salary of about $124,535 per year plus 12% superannuation.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of the Victorian media landscape and media operations.
• Plan and generate proactive media coverage, either as a journalist or communications professional.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to translate complex ideas into public messages.
• Experience working with or knowledge of Government organisations.
• Some travel, weekend and after-hours work may be required.
• Tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or public relations (highly desired).

Responsibilities

• Assist with implementation of WorkSafe’s media strategy.
• Develop, implement and evaluate media plans to support business initiatives.
• Draft press releases and related content ensuring key messages align with objectives.
• Generate coverage across print, broadcast and online media.
• Provide proactive and reactive media advice to internal stakeholders.
• Respond to media inquiries and data requests.
• Assist in planning and delivering media events.
• Monitor media and provide analysis.
