Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer for a North Queensland mining and resources operation. You will lead mechanical projects from scoping and design through to installation and commissioning, coordinating contractors and internal teams to hit schedules and budgets.

The role requires hands-on project management across processing plants and heavy industry equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Demonstrated experience delivering mechanical engineering projects within mining, mineral processing, heavy industry or a similar environment.
• Experience managing projects from concept and design through to installation, commissioning and handover.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, industrial equipment and relevant engineering standards.
• Proven ability to coordinate contractors and multidisciplinary teams while managing competing project priorities.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
• A proactive approach to project delivery, with a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical projects throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial scoping and design through to fabrication, installation and commissioning.
• Develop project scopes, technical specifications, budgets and schedules to support successful project delivery.
• Coordinate contractors, engineering consultants and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
• Provide mechanical engineering expertise and technical support across processing plant, equipment and infrastructure projects.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks and resolve technical issues to maintain project objectives.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant Australian standards, safety requirements and quality assurance processes.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, plant reliability and operational efficiency.
• Build strong working relationships across engineering, maintenance, operations and project teams.
