Job summary

North Coast Engineering and Mechanical in Cairns, QLD, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fixed Plant Fitter. The role rotates weekly between our Cairns workshop (4 days) and a 5-day DIDO remote site assignment at Mareeba, with accommodation and meals provided.

Join a growing fabrication and engineering team, handle crushers, screens, conveyors, and pumps, perform repairs, welding, and alignments, and contribute to safe, efficient project delivery.

Qualifications

• Documented experience as a fitter - mechanical fixed plant.
• Hydraulics knowledge is preferred.
• Experience with crushing and screening circuits.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills.
• Relevant trade qualifications and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical fitting, repairs and component replacements across crushers, screens, conveyors, pumps and other fixed‑plant equipment.
• Diagnose faults, troubleshoot breakdowns and complete timely repairs to minimise production delays.
• Complete welding, fabrication‑related fitting, drilling, tapping and assembly tasks as required.
• Support shutdowns, planned maintenance and project works with safe, efficient execution.
• Perform alignment, torqueing, tensioning and flange management to site standards.
