Job summary

Western Murray Irrigation is seeking a Mechanical Officer based at the Coomealla depot to perform hands-on maintenance of pump stations, pipelines, and related assets. You will monitor systems, coordinate contractors, and liaise with workshops on major overhauls.

The role requires 2–5 years in operations and maintenance with a mechanical focus, a valid licence, and a practical, can-do attitude suitable for outdoor work. An on-call roster and overtime are included.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of operations and maintenance experience with pumps, rotating machinery, and pipelines
• Digital literacy is essential (e.g., maintenance software, Excel/Word/Outlook) or quick to learn
• Current driver’s licence is required
• Tickets such as White Card, Forklift, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Chemical Handling, First Aid/CPR or Traffic Management are a bonus
• Water industry or trade background is well regarded, but mechanical aptitude and attitude matter more
• Outdoor work capability and a team-oriented, can-do attitude

Job description

Western Murray Irrigation runs the supply and drainage network that keeps water moving across Buronga, Mourquong, Coomealla and Curlwaa. They need a Mechanical Officer based out of the Coomealla depot who's happy to get hands-on keeping pump stations and pipelines running.

You'll be doing the scheduled and reactive maintenance on supply and drainage pump stations, watching the condition monitoring systems to plan ahead of problems, and coordinating contractors when jobs need more hands. When it's a major overhaul, you'll be the one liaising with the outside engineering workshops.

Beyond the pump stations, you will be assisting the team in maintaining pipelines, customer outlets, meters, telemetry, drainage and groundwater monitoring gear across the district. Buildings, vehicles, tools, and plant are to be maintained in safe working order.

There's a standby roster attached to this one. When something goes wrong after hours, you're the call. That's what the on-call allowance and overtime are there for.

What You'll Bring:

• 2-5 years' operations and maintenance experience, with a genuine mechanical head for pumps, rotating machinery and pipelines
• Digital literacy is essential (ability to use day-to-day operational systems/tools such as maintenance management software, Excel/Word/Outlook, and asset monitoring systems) - or quick to get across them
• A current driver's licence - no exceptions on this one
• Tickets like White Card, Forklift, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Chemical Handling, First Aid/CPR or Traffic Management are a bonus. Don't have them yet? Willingness to get them counts for more than already holding them
• Water industry or trade background is well regarded, but if you've got the mechanical aptitude and the right attitude, that matters more
• Fit enough for outdoor work, on your feet, in the weather
• Team-oriented with a practical, "can-do" attitude

You'll report to the Executive Manager Operations, work solo with no one reporting to you, and get a company vehicle for the commute (not for personal use)
