Job summary

SA Water in Coober Pedy is seeking a skilled Maintenance Trade Technician (Electrical) to deliver safe, reliable maintenance across critical infrastructure assets. In this hands-on role, you will perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance, fault finding, testing, and commissioning, while mentoring apprentices and contributing to asset reliability initiatives.

  • A recognised electrical trade certificate and current licence to perform electrical work.
  • Experience in an industrial, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.
  • Sound understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, testing, commissioning, and modification works to maximise asset reliability, performance, and availability.
  • Contribute to asset condition assessments, reliability initiatives, SiD, HAZOP studies, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Apply specialist trade knowledge to maintenance activities while mentoring apprentices and team members.
  • Execute maintenance and project work in accordance with plans, schedules, budgets, and quality standards, while managing tools, equipment, materials, and resources.
  • Capture and update maintenance information within the CMMS, communicate work progress and asset issues, and identify opportunities for asset renewal and future maintenance improvements.

About the job

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Trade Technician (Electrical) based in Coober Pedy to help deliver safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance services across critical infrastructure assets. In this hands-on role, you will contribute to planned and reactive maintenance activities, capital projects, fault finding, commissioning, and asset reliability initiatives that support essential services to our customers and communities.

Reporting to the Supervisor Maintenance Execution, you will work both independently and as part of a collaborative maintenance team, applying your technical expertise to ensure assets are maintained to the highest safety and performance standards.

About Operations and Maintenance

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to WHS requirements, proactively identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, and risks, and ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with organisational standards.
  • Perform planned and reactive electrical maintenance, repairs, fault finding, testing, commissioning, and modification works to maximise asset reliability, performance, and availability.
  • Contribute to asset condition assessments, reliability initiatives, Safety in Design (SiD), HAZOP studies, and continuous improvement activities that enhance operational performance and reduce downtime.
  • Apply specialist trade knowledge to maintenance activities while supporting and mentoring apprentices and team members to build capability and ensure quality outcomes.
  • Execute maintenance and project work in accordance with plans, schedules, budgets, and quality standards, while effectively managing tools, equipment, materials, and resources.
  • Capture and update maintenance information within the CMMS, communicate work progress and asset issues, and identify opportunities for asset renewal, replacement, and future maintenance improvements.

Your success in this role will come from:

  • A recognised electrical trade certificate and current licence to perform electrical work.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in Instrumentation and Control are desirable and will be highly regarded.
  • Basic knowledge and experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are desirable.
  • Proven experience working in an industrial, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.
  • Sound understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, risk management practices, and a commitment to working safely at all times.
  • Ability to diagnose faults, analyse operational issues, and implement effective solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads autonomously while contributing positively within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence using maintenance management systems, computers, and software applications.
  • Experience in water, wastewater, environmental, or utility operations, along with exposure to coordinating or delivering small projects, will be highly regarded.
