Job summary

Southern Rural Water is seeking a Technical Officer based in Maffra to provide hands-on technical and mechanical support across the Macalister Irrigation District. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain automation, electrical, and mechanical systems, becoming the first point of contact for maintenance and fault repairs.

This role offers 71,851–83,148 AUD per year plus 12% superannuation, with flexible arrangements and development opportunities in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in technical and mechanical operations.
• Proficiency in operating a wide range of tools, machinery, and equipment.
• Experience in maintaining technical, electronic, or mechanical equipment, with some knowledge of automation systems including SCADA operations and diagnostics is desirable.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and adapt to the needs of the team.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and maintain automation systems to ensure automated and SCADA controlled equipment operate efficiently to meet service and water saving targets.
• Serve as the primary contact for SRW staff and contractors for all maintenance, diagnostics, and fault repairs.
• Liaise with Operations and Maintenance staff to ensure automated systems performance targets are met.
• Work proactively as part of a small group of employees/contractors.
• Identify and recommend system upgrades or changes to enhance automation efficiency.

Are you mechanically minded with strong hands on and technical skills? If yes, then the Technical Officer could be the perfect role for you!

We are seeking a Technical Officer to provide hands on technical and mechanical support across the Macalister Irrigation District (MID). As a member of the Water Supply East team, you will be the first point of contact for maintenance, diagnostics and fault repair, helping to ensure our systems operate safely, reliably and efficiently.

You will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining and troubleshooting a range of automated, mechanical and electrical systems across the MID. This is a practical role that will see you working across a diverse range of equipment and systems, using your technical skills to identify issues, resolve faults and support the ongoing operation of the irrigation network.

This is a great opportunity to broaden your technical skill set while working alongside a supportive and experienced team. Training will be provided on industry specific equipment, systems and processes to support you in developing the skills required to succeed in the role.

Please note that you will need to be located within 30 minutes of Maffra for the purpose of responding to recall events while on standby.
