Job summary

Western Murray Irrigation seeks a Mechanical Officer at the Coomealla depot to perform hands-on maintenance on pump stations and pipelines, monitor systems, and plan ahead for preventive care. You will coordinate contractors for major jobs and liaise with external workshops during overhauls.

You’ll also maintain telemetry, meters, and groundwater gear across the district. Role includes after-hours standby, with a call-up system supported by an on-call allowance and overtime.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years' operations and maintenance experience with pumps and pipelines.
• Digital literacy with maintenance software, Excel/Word/Outlook, and asset monitoring systems.
• Current driver’s license without exception.
• Tickets such as White Card, Forklift, Confined Space, Working at Heights, Chemical Handling, First Aid/CPR or Traffic Management are bonus.
• Water industry or trade background is well regarded; attitude matters more than specific background.
• Fit for outdoor work, on your feet in various weather conditions.
• Team‑oriented with a practical, can‑do attitude.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on pump stations and pipelines.
• Monitor condition monitoring systems and plan ahead to prevent problems.
• Coordinate contractors for larger jobs and liaise with external engineering workshops for major overhauls.
• Maintain pipelines, customer outlets, meters, telemetry, drainage and groundwater monitoring gear.
• Ensure buildings, vehicles, tools and plant are kept in safe working order.
• Be part of the standby roster and respond to after‑hours calls with an on‑call allowance and overtime.
