Verdex Equipment is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design practical products and drive ideas from concept through to manufacture. You will own mechanical design tasks, support testing, and collaborate with suppliers to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment.
Responsibilities include developing SOLIDWORKS models and BOMs, preparing manufacturing-ready designs, performing calculations, applying FEA where appropriate, and coordinating with fabricators to progress prototypes
This is a hands-on opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys designing practical products, solving problems and seeing ideas progress through to manufacture.
Working within Verdex Equipment’s product development team, you’ll help develop and improve material handling and workplace equipment, including trolleys, lifting equipment, forklift attachments, workbenches and storage solutions. You’ll take ownership of mechanical design tasks, support product testing and work closely with suppliers to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective products.
Key responsibilities
Develop SOLIDWORKS models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for new and existing products.
Prepare manufacturing-ready designs from concepts, sketches, physical samples and supplier models.
Perform and document engineering calculations covering load capacity, strength, deflection, stability and component selection.
Use finite element analysis (FEA), where appropriate, to assess designs and support physical testing.
Design and refine sheet metal, welded frames and mechanical assemblies, considering materials, tolerances, manufacturing methods and ease of assembly.
Coordinate with suppliers and fabricators to review designs, obtain quotations and support prototype and production builds.
Develop test plans, assist with prototype assembly and load testing, and document results and design improvements.
Identify applicable Australian Standards, safety requirements and technical risks, coordinating specialist assessment where required.
Investigate product defects and customer feedback, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Maintain design records, revision control and product documentation using SOLIDWORKS PDM.
Support the preparation of technical specifications, assembly instructions, user manuals and compliance documentation.
Contribute to product standardisation, component reuse and improvements in quality and manufacturing cost.
About you
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with strong mechanical design experience.
Experience taking mechanical designs through development, manufacture and practical testing.
Strong SOLIDWORKS skills, including assemblies, sheet metal, weldments and detailed manufacturing drawings.
Sound engineering fundamentals and the ability to clearly explain and document calculations and design decisions.
An understanding of steel fabrication, welding, materials, tolerances and design for manufacture and assembly.
Practical problem-solving skills and confidence working with suppliers, fabricators and internal teams.
The ability to manage multiple projects, communicate progress and raise technical concerns early.
A collaborative approach, attention to detail and a willingness to challenge assumptions constructively.
Experience with SOLIDWORKS Simulation and PDM would be highly regarded.
Experience with material handling equipment, lifting equipment, industrial machinery, hydraulics or electromechanical systems would be an advantage.
Knowledge of electrical systems, including motors, controls and integration with mechanical equipment, would be an advantage.
