Job summary

Digga Australia is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the Kanga Loader engineering team on the Gold Coast. You will design, develop and optimise mechanical systems and components, with a focus on hydraulics, CAD modeling and manufacturing documentation.

The role requires strong CAD skills, experience with sheet metal fabrication, and 12V electrics, plus collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to deliver certified designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in earth-moving equipment or mobile machinery is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
• Ability to produce high-quality manufacturing documentation and BOMs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Knowledge of mechanical design standards.
• Familiarity with welding techniques and material selection.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience with manufacturing processes and software including Microsoft Office and PDM/Vault.
• Knowledge or experience with hydraulics, FEA, jigs/fixtures, RCA and FMEA is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including engineering reports, detailed drawings and specifications.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure design objectives and project requirements are met.
• Develop and manage large 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
• Generate manufacturing drawings, schematics and BOMs.
• Support R&D initiatives and engineering innovation projects.
• Participate in prototype development, testing and validation of design concepts.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and prepare documentation for certification.
• Understand hydraulic components and systems including pumps, valves and cylinders.

Job description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer to join our Kanga Loader engineering team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimisation of mechanical systems and components. This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including experience with hydraulic components, advanced CAD proficiency, sheet metal fabrication, and low voltage (12v) electrics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including engineering reports, detailed drawings, and specifications
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure design objectives and project requirements are met
• Develop & manage large 3D models and assemblies usingAutodesk Inventor
• Generate manufacturing drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Contribute to research and development initiatives and support engineering innovation projects
• Participate in prototype development, testing, and validation of design concepts
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and prepare technical documentation for certification
• Understand hydraulic components, pumps, spool valves, solenoid valves, hydraulic motors and hydraulic cylinders

Experience & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree, diploma or relevant trade experience in Mechanical Engineering, drafting or a related discipline
• Experiencein a similar role, preferably within theearth-moving equipment or mobile machinerysector
• Advanced proficiency inAutodesk Inventor
• Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality manufacturing documentation and BOMs
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Sound knowledge of mechanical design standards
• Familiarity with welding techniques and material selection
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with manufacturing processes and procedures
• Experience with software systems including the Microsoft suite and PDM or Vault systems

Knowledge of, or experience with hydraulics, FEA, design of jigs, fixtures and production tooling, RCA, & FMEA investigations highly regarded.
