Rodgers Bros Hire is a family-owned equipment hire business servicing the Hunter region. Based in Wallsend, Newcastle, we have been servicing the Hunter region since 1854.

This hands-on role involves servicing and maintaining a diverse fleet in our workshop, with occasional equipment deliveries and customer interaction, offering variety beyond routine tasks.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Fitter & Machinist or Automotive Mechanic.
• Current Driver's Licence.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Good communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Servicing and maintaining plant and equipment.
• Fault finding, diagnosis and rectification of mechanical issues.
• Preventative maintenance of the hire fleet.
• Servicing generators, compressors and other equipment.
• Mechanical fault finding and troubleshooting.
• Preparing equipment for hire and ensuring it is safe and ready for customers.
• Loading and unloading equipment and deliveries/collections.
• Assisting customers with equipment during deliveries and collections.

MECHANIC – DIESEL / FITTER & MACHINIST / AUTOMOTIVE

Rodgers Bros Hire is a family-owned equipment hire business servicing the construction, industrial and residential sectors throughout the Hunter region. Based in Wallsend, Newcastle, we have been servicing the Hunter region since 1854.

We are seeking a trade qualified Diesel Mechanic, Fitter & Machinist or Automotive Mechanic to join our workshop team.

This is a hands‑on role offering a variety of work primarily based in our workshop, maintaining and servicing a diverse fleet of hire equipment. The role also involves equipment deliveries and customer interaction, making it a position that offers plenty of variety rather than the same work every day.

About the Role

Your duties will include:

• Servicing and maintainingplant and equipment
• Fault finding, diagnosis and rectification of mechanical issues
• Preventative maintenance of our hire fleet
• Servicing and maintaining generators, compressors and other equipment
• Mechanical fault finding and troubleshooting
• Preparing equipment for hire and ensuring it is safe, reliable and ready for customers
• Loading and unloading equipment
• Delivering and collecting equipment from customers
• Assisting customers with equipment during deliveries and collections
• Completion of service reports and maintenance records
• General workshop duties

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic, Fitter & Machinist or Automotive Mechanic
• Current Driver's Licence
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and manage your workload
• Good communication and customer service skills
• A practical, hands‑on approach to problem solving
• Pride in your workmanship
• Commitment to workplace health and safety

Experience working with a variety of plant, machinery or hire equipment would be highly regarded.

Desirable but Not Essential

• Experience with generators, compressors or construction equipment
• Hydraulic experience
• Welding and fabrication experience
• Forklift licence
• MR Truck Licence
