Job summary

Coastal Hire is seeking an experienced Mechanic / Fitter for our Taree team. The role offers a permanent full-time position, Monday to Friday, 7am–3pm, with regular daytime hours and no weekend work.

You'll service and repair a wide range of hire equipment and vehicles, diagnose faults, and conduct preventative maintenance to keep the fleet safe and ready for hire. A trade qualification is highly regarded, and licenses such as MR, White Card and EWP ticket are advantageous.

Coastal Hire is looking for an experienced Mechanic / Fitter to join our Taree team.

But we’re not looking for just any mechanic.

Our hire fleet covers a huge range of equipment, so we need someone with broad mechanical knowledge, plenty of practical experience and, most importantly, the sort of can-do attitude that means they’re willing to have a crack at almost anything.

One day you could be working on an excavator or EWP, the next a trailer, generator, compactor, mower, vehicle or another piece of hire equipment.

We’re looking for someone who has been around machinery for a while, knows their way around a workshop and can diagnose a problem rather than simply replace parts until the fault disappears.

You don't need to have worked on every machine in our fleet. If you don't know it, we want someone who's willing and able to learn it.

The lifestyle

This is a permanent full-time position, Monday to Friday, 7am–3pm.

No late finishes. No weekends. No endless 10 or 12-hour days.

Come to work, get stuck into the job and still have your afternoon and evening to yourself.

What you'll be working on

Coastal Hire has a large and varied hire fleet, including earthmoving equipment, access equipment, EWP's, trailers, vehicles, garden equipment, generators, construction equipment and much more.

We also continue to invest in new equipment, so a big part of your role will be keeping both our new and existing fleet serviced, maintained, safe and ready for hire.

Your role will include:

Servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a broad range of hire equipment, plant, EWP's and company vehicles

Fault finding across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems

Scheduled and preventative maintenance

Pre and post-hire inspections

Troubleshooting faults and getting equipment back into reliable working order

Keeping accurate maintenance and service records

Identifying issues before they become bigger problems

Helping maintain our workshop, equipment and company assets to a high standard

Assisting with equipment movements, loading and unloading when required

Pitching in with the wider branch team when needed

Who we're looking for

This role would suit an experienced mechanic, mechanical fitter, plant mechanic, diesel mechanic or similarly experienced tradesperson who enjoys variety and problem solving.

More than anything, we're looking for someone who is:

Mechanically minded with broad, hands-on experience

Confident fault finding and diagnosing problems

Experienced with a variety of machinery and equipment

Familiar with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems

Practical and resourceful

Able to work independently and use initiative

Willing to learn equipment they haven't worked on before

Safety conscious with good attention to detail

Reliable and able to keep good maintenance records

Happy to be part of a team and lend a hand when required

Equipped with a genuine can-do attitude

Basically, we're looking someone with a broad skill set who enjoys figuring things out and doesn't need every day to involve the exact same machine.

Qualifications & licences

A trade qualification in mechanical fitting, automotive, diesel or a related field would be highly regarded.

Experience and practical ability are extremely important to us, so we'd also like to hear from people with extensive relevant industry experience.
