Job description

Bring Caloundra’s community markets to life.

Are you an experienced event or festival operator who loves bringing people together? Do you enjoy the energy of event day, leading a team and seeing your planning turn into a great community experience?

Join the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and take the lead on delivering Caloundra’s much-loved Street Fair and three monthly Twilight Markets. From bustling Sunday mornings on Bulcock Street to evenings filled with food, music and local makers, this is your opportunity to help create experiences that keep people coming back.

About the role

This is a full-time, hands-on role based in Caloundra, combining market planning and administration with onsite delivery, team leadership and stallholder coordination.

You will take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our community markets—bringing together vendors, casual staff, contractors and entertainers to deliver welcoming, well-organised and vibrant events.

A typical week includes approximately three days of office-based planning and administration and up to two days of onsite market delivery, depending on the event calendar and team requirements.

Sunday is a regular working day, supervising the Caloundra Street Fair from approximately 6am to 2pm. Flexibility is also required for Friday evening Twilight Markets and occasional additional events. As you develop a capable casual team, there may be opportunities for occasional Sundays off, subject to operational coverage.

Reporting to Chamber Management, you will be supported by casual market staff and the wider Chamber team, including marketing and administrative support.

What you’ll deliver

Great market experiences: Coordinate the Caloundra Street Fair and three monthly Twilight Markets, creating a positive experience for stallholders, local businesses and visitors.

Confident onsite leadership: Lead setup, bump-in, market operations, bump-out and pack-down, keeping the team organised and responding calmly when plans change.

A strong delivery team: Recruit, onboard, roster and supervise casual market staff, providing clear direction and building their confidence and capability.

Well-planned market sites: Prepare layouts, site maps, vendor allocations and equipment requirements that support safe access, efficient operations and an inviting market atmosphere.

Reliable event services: Coordinate traffic management, waste services, power, lighting, entertainment and other contractors and suppliers.

Positive stallholder relationships: Manage enquiries, applications, bookings and allocations through our digital booking platform, with clear and timely communication.

Safe and efficient operations: Coordinate permits, risk assessments, insurance records and workplace health and safety procedures.

Sound administration and cost control: Maintain accurate vendor records, coordinate invoicing and payment follow-up, and monitor operational budgets, staffing costs and revenue.

Continuous improvement: Bring practical ideas to improve market presentation, team performance, stallholder participation and the visitor experience.

What you’ll bring

Practical experience delivering events or festivals is essential. Your background may include community markets, outdoor events, exhibitions or similar public events where you have taken responsibility for onsite operations.

You will also bring:

Proven experience supervising staff, managing rosters and delegating tasks.

A hands-on approach and the ability to stay calm, make decisions and solve problems during busy events.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to give clear direction to staff, vendors and contractors.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage several priorities.

A friendly, professional approach to customer service, including handling difficult conversations constructively.

Confidence using digital booking systems, Microsoft Office and other business platforms.

Good spatial awareness and the ability to interpret and develop event site layouts.

An understanding of event safety, risk management, permits and compliance.

Reliability, integrity and a willingness to take ownership and follow through.

The ability to undertake the physical requirements of outdoor market setup, pack-down and onsite supervision.

Current First Aid and RSA certificates, or willingness to obtain both before starting.

Availability for regular Sunday work, scheduled Friday evenings and occasional additional events.

Take the lead on established markets that are an important part of Caloundra’s identity.

Enjoy a varied role combining planning, people leadership and hands-on event delivery.

Build and develop a casual team you can be proud of.

Work closely with local makers, food vendors, entertainers and businesses.

Contribute ideas and help shape the next stage of our markets’ development.

See the direct impact of your work in busy streets, thriving local businesses and memorable community experiences.
