Love food, local producers, events and bringing people together?

Do you enjoy building relationships, discovering great producers, creating exciting events and giving people compelling reasons to visit a market?

North Sydney Community Centre (NSCC) is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and commercially minded person to manage and help shape the future of our much-loved Northside Produce Market. Held fortnightly in the heart of North Sydney, our markets bring together farmers, growers, food makers, small businesses and the local community. They are also an important fundraiser for the Centre.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who understands that a successful market needs both great stallholders and a steady stream of customers. You’ll build strong relationships with our producers, develop engaging promotions and events, and identify opportunities to grow attendance, achieve budget targets and the market’s long‑term financial sustainability.

Your role

Build strong stallholder relationships

Our stallholders are the heart of the market. Many have been with us for years, and you’ll help ensure they feel valued, supported and motivated to return.

You’ll:

  • Manage stallholder sourcing, selection, applications, bookings and communication.

  • Welcome and support new stallholders while maintaining a strong, diverse mix of quality producers and businesses.

  • Build genuine relationships, understand stallholders’ businesses and respond constructively to feedback or concerns.

  • Work with the Centre administration team to ensure stallholder invoicing and related processes are managed effectively.

  • Continually improve the stallholder experience and retention.

Create a market people want to visit

You’ll develop reasons for customers to come to the market, return regularly and discover something new — helping our stallholders succeed. This could mean showcasing seasonal produce, introducing a new producer, sharing a compelling stallholder story, organising live music or creating a special foodie event or seasonal celebration, working within the approved budget.

You’ll:

  • With the Marketing Coordinator, develop and coordinate market promotions, themes, campaigns, and special events, with the Marketing Coordinator executing the marketing aspects.

  • Identify opportunities to increase attendance, attract new customers and build customer loyalty.

  • Contribute to website and e‑newsletter content, posters, flyers, banners and other promotional materials.

  • Develop local partnerships and promotional opportunities.

  • Ensure OH&S is observed for market day.

  • Be responsible to set up, manage, and pack down the markets in order for the stallholders to operate their stalls smoothly.

  • Work closely with North Sydney Council and the Centre’s Marketing Coordinator to build market awareness and engagement.

Grow the market commercially

You’ll take responsibility for the market’s financial performance, working to the annual budget and identifying opportunities for sustainable growth.

You’ll:

  • Monitor stall bookings, revenue, payments and market expenses.

  • Process EFTPOS market payments in our internal systems, including overseeing follow-up on outstanding monies.

  • Identify opportunities to increase stallholder retention, attract new producers and grow market income.

  • Develop initiatives that improve financial sustainability while maintaining the market’s quality and community character.

  • Maintain oversight of market records including making sure stallholder insurances are current.

  • Contribute to monthly reporting for the Management Committee.

  • Work collaboratively with the market operations team to ensure promotions, bookings and events translate into a well‑run and successful market.

Work as part of the NSCC team

NSCC is an independently managed, not-for-profit community organisation offering classes, workshops, events, venue hire, playgroup, After School Care, community programs and our fresh produce markets. As a member of the Centre’s leadership team, you’ll contribute beyond the market, including general office administration, enrolment days and Centre‑wide events. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to making NSCC a welcoming, successful community organisation.

About you

You may have experience in markets, events, hospitality, food, marketing, sales, community engagement, customer service or small business. More importantly, you’ll be someone who:

  • Loves people, food, fresh produce and local producers.

  • Builds genuine relationships and communicates confidently with a wide range of people.

  • Is highly organised, commercially aware and attentive to detail.

  • Understands what makes an event successful and knows how to create compelling reasons for people to attend.

  • Enjoys generating ideas and turning them into practical promotions, events and results.

  • Understands the importance of engaging social media content.

  • Takes initiative, solves problems and stays calm when things don’t go to plan.

  • Manages all logistical aspects of market day including management of the Operations & Event Assistant

  • Is an expert event manager, can roll your sleeves up and make sure market day is humming!

  • Is comfortable being a decision maker, visible, hands‑on and actively involved.

Why work with us?

You’ll work with farmers, growers, food producers, makers, volunteers, local businesses and residents, with a genuine opportunity to shape the future of a much‑loved community market. It’s a role where relationships matter, your ideas can make a difference, and you can see the results of your work every fortnight. Periodically you may visit other local produce markets to identify potential new stallholders and ideas. (Additional hours required to be approved in advance by the Director).

  • Position: Market Coordinator

  • Hours: Three weekdays, 10am–5pm (21 hours per week), plus market Saturday, 5am–2pm, on market weeks. (Tuesday, Thursday & Friday preferred)

  • Market schedule: First and third Saturday of each month, except January, when one market is held. Saturday hours are paid at the applicable Saturday rate.

  • Reports to: Centre Director.
