Maitland City Council is seeking a Manager Planning & Development to lead our Development Planning team and drive excellence in development assessment, customer service, innovation and strategic outcomes.
Reporting to the Executive Manager City Development, you will lead a team of planning professionals and play a key role in supporting Maitland's growth by balancing community expectations, legislative requirements, strategic planning outcomes, and development opportunities.
You will manage complex and often contentious planning matters with sound professional judgement and collaborate across Council to align development outcomes with strategic growth. The position also represents Council in legal proceedings, regional forums, stakeholder engagement activities, and industry matters as required.
You will be responsible for fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement while ensuring high quality planning decisions and exceptional customer experiences for our stakeholders.
We are seeking an experienced and solution focused planning professional with a degree in Town Planning or a related discipline, supported by extensive knowledge of contemporary development assessment practices and planning legislation.
You will have a proven track record of leading and developing high performing teams, fostering a positive culture, and empowering staff to achieve outstanding results. You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership, negotiation and facilitation skills and will be able to navigate complex planning matters and resolve challenging issues with professionalism and sound judgement.
This is a full-time, permanent role working a 35-hour week, with an attractive and competitive salary + vehicle allowance + 12% super.
