Job summary

AGL Energy is seeking a senior Manager for Energy Assets Data & AI to lead data governance, strategy and operations across generation assets. The role shapes the data framework, partnering with IT and business to ensure compliant data, tagging, storage and retrieval in a federated data fabric.

You will guide enterprise data standards and drive data quality across platforms. The position requires a decade in operations, strong stakeholder influence, and experience with Azure, SAP and SQL

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, data & AI management, data science or equivalent.
• 10 years’ experience in an operations environment preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders and drive change.
• Experience in heavy industrial, construction and high-risk environments.
• Excellent communications and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, acquisition, storing, organising, destroying and archiving of all generation asset data, aligning with Energy Asset and AGL governance standards.
• Deliver and govern the Energy Assets data & AI strategy and maintain asset data in line with IT data and governance policies.
• Collaborate with other data & AI professionals and stakeholders to drive system and process changes.
• Coach and train data managers and data producers, contributing to enterprise Data & AI capability.

About the role

The Energy Assets Data & AI team are responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of Energy Asset’s operational data, information management, AI and data governance. The role shapes and contributes to Energy Asset’s technology vision, digital strategy, and information governance framework to enable a centralised federated data model. The team are responsible for ensuring that internal and external data brought into AGL conforms to a standard naming convention and is integrated into an operations ‘data-fabric’ for secure and federated use. The team is responsible for providing guidance to assets operations on industry practice for data generation, tagging, storage and consumption as well as responsible for its integration with AGL’s enterprise data platforms, storage and cloud functions. The Manager Energy Assets Data & AI is accountable for the development and management of Energy Asset’s operations data standard, information management protocols and provider of overall data governance for operational assets, with a strong focus on leading the data and AI stream of Energy Asset’s Digital program as it aligns to AGL’s energy transition. The Manager Energy Assets Data & AI is responsible for the creation, curation, accessibility and updating of operations data from multiple sources, ensuring it is stored in accordance with AGL data standards. The role ensures data can be used by other data professionals in a way that balances business need with security and privacy standards, including appropriated archiving and destroying of data as required. The role supports the delivery and implementation of enterprise data management activities, oversee the data quality control process, and record management including archiving and curation.

What You’ll Be Doing

Lead the planning, acquisition, storing, organising, destroying and archiving of all generation asset data, as it aligns and integrates with all of Energy Asset’s and AGL enterprise data. Delivery and governance of the Energy Assets data & AI strategy and the maintenance of asset data in alignment with AGL IT data and governance standards, including: implementing of strategies for data storage, archival, destruction and retrieval; execute data integration and migration projects; create and document data processes and data-related guidelines. Establish broad networks to drive informed, comprehensive and effective organisational/domain improvements in data management and support data across the data lifecycle. Influence, shape and comply with regulations, policies and guidelines that are integral to good data management practices. Collaborate with other data & AI professionals, AGL Enterprise Data & AI Governance leaders, other business stakeholders, and IT specialists to drive system and process changes that enable the organisation to realise strategic goals or deliver significant operational outcomes. Lead enterprise wide analysis and review of technology, systems and processes to achieve strategic priorities in data management. Coach and train other data managers, data producers and consumers, and contribute at whole of business level to developing Data & AI Management capability. Optimise processes, facilitate consistency across business areas, champion data quality and resolve complex data issues. Ensure reliable data is accessible and aligns with established guidelines and can be used in scalable and repeatable processes. Increase the visibility and interrogability of an Energy Asset’s operational data assets, optimise the use of data & AI within the bounds of AGL’s enterprise data policy and standard. Coordinate with all site and Asset Services Master Data stewards to ensure total data management is aligned with local sub-system data management such as SAP, etc. Effective delivery and communication for all change notifications, upgrades and fault rectification within Integrated Energy Operations’ data ecosystem.

What You’ll Bring

Tertiary qualifications in engineering, data & AI management, data science or equivalent. 10 years’ experience in an operations environment (eg power generation, oil and gas, mining) preferred, with a demonstrated ability in data management, governance and leadership desirable. Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders, create buy-in, drive a positive culture through active consultation and implement change. Experience in operating within a heavy industrial, construction and high-risk industry in a leadership capacity. Experience in leadership, stakeholder management and inspiring high levels of engagement. Prior experience with and implementation of various technology products and services such as Azure products, cloud storage, SQL servers, SAP, data and Pi etc. Prior experience in an operational technology or support/central function environment. Excellent communications and influencing skills. Confident at liaising with people from all levels of business including the Executive Team. Able to manage competing priorities and multiple projects/responsibilities. Good working knowledge of the electricity energy market and operations technology behind underpinning it.
