Job summary

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a skilled Maintenance Planning Officer to join the Facilities & Open Spaces Program. This permanent full-time role involves planning, scheduling and coordinating reactive and preventative maintenance across council buildings and community assets.

The position is approximately 50% office-based and requires collaboration with internal stakeholders, contractors and operational teams to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality maintenance delivery.

  • Proven ability to manage contractors and ensure quality, safety and compliance.
  • Practical knowledge of building maintenance and construction activities.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Proficient in maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate reactive and preventative maintenance across council buildings and community assets.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors and operational teams to deliver safe, efficient works.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting for maintenance activities and on-call roster.
  • Support continuous improvement of maintenance programs and asset performance.

About This Opportunity

Mackay Regional Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Maintenance Planning Officer to join our dynamic team within the Facilities & Open Spaces Program. This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity within the Facilities & Open Spaces Program and includes participation in an on-call roster (on-call allowance applicable).

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating reactive and preventative maintenance activities across Council's building and community assets. The position requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and confidence working within maintenance management systems such as Assetic.

The role is approximately 50% office-based and involves close coordination with internal stakeholders, contractors and operational teams to ensure maintenance works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Participation in an on-call roster is required.

You are a practical and organised professional with experience in building maintenance and contractor coordination. You enjoy planning and prioritising work, solving problems, and ensuring high-quality maintenance outcomes.

  • Experience planning and coordinating maintenance works and projects

  • Practical knowledge of building maintenance and construction-related activities
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Sound computer skills and experience using systems for work management and reporting
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication skills and a customer-focused approach
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Relevant trade qualification or demonstrated trade background
  • Minimum two years' industry experience
  • Current Queensland Construction Industry White Card
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to participate in an on-call roster
Desirable
  • Project management qualification
  • Experience in a Local Government environment
