Job description

Maintenance Manager - Mount Piper Power Station

Mount Piper Power Station is in the New South Wales Central West region, approx. 20 kilometres west of Lithgow. The large power station is fuelled using black coal sourced from mines in the local area and is the youngest and one of the most flexible coal fired assets in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Mount Piper Power Station is expected to operate for many more years to come.

About the role

Mount Piper Power Station's maintenance team keeps our plant reliable, safe, and running at its best.

As Maintenance Leader, you'll manage the maintenance, planning and quality functions for the site, and sit on the site leadership team helping shape strategy and decisions.

Your commercial and technical experience will aid in identifying opportunities to improve plant availability and performance, while managing risk across all fixed plant assets — and fostering a safe, engaged team culture along the way.

Reporting to the Head of Mount Piper, with 5x direct reports and 60+ indirect reports across generation plant, external plant, electrical/technician teams, and planning and scheduling, this is a genuine leadership role with real scope to make an impact.

What you'll be doing

  • Safety first — building a proactive safety culture, ensuring audit and inspection actions are closed out on time, and keeping safety front of mind for your team and contractors
  • Leadership and culture — building trust and collaboration across your team, developing your people, and driving continuous improvement and innovation
  • Strategic planning — contributing to Mount Piper's business planning process and developing a proactive, long-term maintenance management system
  • Financial management — developing business plans and budgets, interpreting operating results, and making recommendations on cost, profit and risk
  • Environment and community — promoting sustainable practice and strong relationships with stakeholders and the local community
  • Workforce planning — ensuring your team is resourced, trained, and supported to meet current and future needs, and managing industrial relations matters as they arise

You will need

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in maintenance within a heavy industrial environment
  • Proven leadership experience ideally within a power generation or other heavy industrial operations setting
  • Strong experience with maintenance systems — work management systems, reliability programs, continuous improvement, and workshop management
  • Experience in workforce management and employment relations of a unionised workforce and site
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
  • Strong delegation, prioritisation, and communication skills across a range of formats and audiences
  • Experience managing outage activities and the personnel resources that go with them
  • Financial acumen, financial planning, and budgeting capability

Applications are invited from candidates within Australia who hold relevant working rights.
